Welcome to The Picture Runner!
Hi, I’m Alexia, a runner and amateur photographer. This blog is a blending of my two hobbies. The idea is to capture at least one decent image during each run. Afterwards I post my pictures here along with my mileage and other aspects of the run.
How did I get started?
I’ve been a runner since high school and I’ve been running most of my adult life. I’ve always been interested in photography, but it wasn’t until my dad bought me my first DSLR that I’ve really pursued becoming a better photographer. I came up with the picture runner at a time when I was trying to grow my portfolio. I felt like I was in a photography rut and was brainstorming new material when it popped into my head. Lots of people take pictures of their runs with their phone, but what about running with an SLR? Is it even possible? I did a trial run – sort of a proof of concept. It worked! It was fun! And I was hooked.
The first thing I did was research a proper pack for my camera. Those National Geographic guys must carry their cameras in something besides a shoulder bag, right? It was just a matter of finding it. I came across the LowePro pack for the athlete photographer and watched their video about the pack. I knew it was perfect for my endeavor.
Where am I now? (Updated!)
Well, I wrote on the blog regularly for about a year and a half until grad school took over my life. Now that I’m getting close to graduation, I’m coming back to the blog. I don’t know if I’ll be running with the DSLR or just my phone or both. I’ve decided to relax my photography standard a little and just have fun with it. Camera or phone, the idea is really to run, explore, admire, and enjoy being outside and living a fit lifestyle.
