Only 8 school days into the semester and one thing I’ve discovered is, It is way harder going to school when you are married with children (or child in my case) than it was when you were single.
Last post I was talking about how this fall has brought a lot of new things for me and my family. It’s definitely a busy and challenging season for me. My school started last week. The course load of 500 and 600 level math classes live up to their reputation as being some of the most difficult math courses I’ve ever taken. But underneath all the stress and busy-ness, it’s an exciting season. And now more than ever, I need my running and workouts so I can balance out the mentally challenging classes with some physically challenging workouts.
Yesterday I ran a different portion of the Linear Trail starting at the Big Blue River like I did last time. Even at 8:30, it was already quite warm and the sun was high in the sky. The trail was not as shaded as one would like, but there was a breeze. It was nice to start the day with a run even though I knew I had a pile of homework waiting for me when I got to school.
This is my view on the trail. You can’t see the river the entire time, but the trail follows near it through this section. There are a couple of spots where you can get down to the river and I noticed a well beaten trail down there which had a more cross country feel. I think I’ll try that out when the weather gets colder and there is less fear of creepy-crawlies.
I feel like this is was the first real picture run in awhile. I finally have a smartphone again, I have a GPS watch again (for the first time in a year+ thanks to my cousin Vanessa) and I have time to run again. August and July were a disaster from the picture running and blog perspective. I couldn’t log my mileage and I didn’t write down half of my runs. I decided to scrap the August (and my July too) training log all together and just pick up with September. It’s a new school year so why not? I got a little derailed in the summer, but it happens to everyone.
I still don’t know how much I will be able to write and keep up my schoolwork. However, last night I was able to solve a problem I worked on all day so I had a little extra time. Miracles do happen from time to time. Usually I’ve found that walking away from a problem for a few hours helps to refresh the mind and then when I re-tackle the problem I have new ideas. Running really helps clear the mind. It is the best stress reliever I know and I’ll be relying on it all semester.
Fall is right around the corner so of course more to come! There are so many places I want to run this semester, including the Konza Prairie Nature Trail, the Flint Hills Nature Trail, and over by Tuttle Creek Lake. Oh and I also want to get straight A’s. Is all of this possible? I think so. Just Lots of Hard Work. But isn’t that part of the reason I’m in school. If it wasn’t challenging then what’s the point?
What’s new for your fall?
